Over the years science has made lots of predictions, come through with some, failed with others, and created things that, well, just couldn’t have been anticipated. Of course we are still waiting for cars to be hovering over our heads, and I’m sure some years are still needed to pass before we can expect a Back to the Future 2 in reality.
With that being said, science and technology have advanced rather rapidly in the abilities of 3-D printing. 3-D printing is a rather new trend, but essentially it is a printer that creates real objects. I would go into all the details, but sometimes a simple video showing how they work does the trick:
Thank you CNN. Now as you can see these printers are pretty awesome and with newer versions being developed and crowd-source funding sites such as Kickstarter providing opportunities for many consumers to buy one at affordable costs for their home, they are really picking up traction.
Now you are probably thinking “What does this have to do with real estate?”. Here is your answer:
The scientists at the University of Southern California have put together a 3-D printer that can build a house in 24 hours. Thats right, A HOME IN 24 HOURS. So go back watch that video explanation again of printers making these smaller objects, and now imagine a HOME! A full-size home! Try finding a contractor that can make the same promise as this printer can.
Of course this is still in what one could label as “early stages of development”, but this is a radical new innovation science has provided and in the future could change the real estate industry.
If you are itching for a bit more information, here is an article directly about the new printer.
